Pacaya and Samiria are two rivers running through the national reserve. The reserve is home to at least 449 bird species (like the parrot, macaw, condor of the jungle and toucan), several types of monkey, 6 meter caimans and 12 meter anacondas, the sloth, tapir, giant anteater and giant armadillo, the jaguar, puma and ocelot, the giant otter and the pink and grey river dolphin, just to name a few. Equally impressive is the vegetation and enormous trees and many medicinal plants are to be found. Lagunas is a perfect starting point for your jungle trip, far away from noisy cities like Iquitos.
